Pete Dicce fell in love with the "beautiful game" while growing up in Brentwood, New York. After honing his skills during high school, he came to Philadelphia in 1982 to play soccer for Temple University. Although majoring in communications, his real goal was to become a professional soccer player.
Unfortunately, the North American Soccer League folded. Pete graduated in 1986 and instead went to work in the marketing department of the Dime Savings Bank of New York. Discovering quickly that he wanted a serious off field challenge, Pete applied to law school.
Though never realizing his dream of playing professional soccer, Pete has applied the lessons he learned on the field to the practice of law. "The game of soccer has given me so much…an education, lifelong friends, a healthy competitive spirit and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The practice of law requires daily teamwork and I have the good fortune of being associated with very talented teammates…my partners, associates and support staff."
Pete studied law at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. As an escape from the rigors of law school, he coached a local high school soccer team and was player/coach for the Pepperdine University Soccer Club. Realizing he wanted to return to the East Coast to work and raise a family, Pete completed his degree at Villanova University School of Law in 1990.
Initially Pete clerked for a small Philadelphia insurance defense firm where he enjoyed the client interaction. "The firm provided me with immediate client contact and an opportunity for relationship building."
Pete gained experience as a trial attorney with two firms in Media, Pennsylvania before joining Buckley Brion in 2001. He found that representing both plaintiffs and defendants gives him a unique understanding of the issues facing each side. "A defendant is primarily interested in ending the dispute in an efficient and economical manner, while at the same time having the case thoroughly prepared for trial in the event the dispute cannot be resolved. Some defendants are comfortable with litigation, while others find it so distressing they need extra care and attention just to get through the process."
Pete notes that, when representing plaintiffs, "you have an opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Some of the plaintiffs I represented over the years have deeply influenced me. You cannot effectively represent clients without getting to know them and, to some extent, become a part of their lives."
Pete continues to be active in soccer. He is the Head Soccer Coach at Kennett High School, a coaching school instructor for the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association, a coach for the association's Olympic Development Program and a staff coach for United States Youth Soccer.
